Your mental health matters

Please share yours’ by going of those living with endometriosis also endure significant mental health problems.

These include depression, anxiety and poor esteem which can manifest in self-harm.

Low mood may seem like it is inevitable when you are dealing with a condition that causes such physical pain and fatigue.

None of that is helped by a society that still shuns and dismisses sufferers.

But Endometriosis Awareness North is determined to offer support in the shape of robust information, signposting and case studies.

We all need to be the solution

It will soon be World Suicide Awareness Day - and it is a very poignant reminder that around half of those with endometriosis have had dark thoughts.

Constant pain, lethargy, and a societal misunderstanding of the condition, has a profound and worrying impact on mental health.

But this year's Samaritans campaign has a message of hope.

Interruption from a family member or even a stranger, can prevent the worst from happening.

The charity has just published figures showing:

60% of those who had considered taking their own lives thought again, thanks to intervention from loved ones

14% had their suicidal thoughts interrupted by someone they didn't know.

Endometriosis Awareness North has just produced a website page on mental health and endo, advocating talking therapies. We realise that this is not the complete solution, and are always keen to hear from professionals with advice on dealing with the mental strain of physical pain.
